‘No man is an island’
No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as a manor of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
- John Donne, from Devotions upon Emergent Occasions, 1

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” - Martin Luther King, Jr. (Civil-Rights Leader 1929-1968)
Soul searched, courage found
Drop the reigns, gain trust, follow
Footsteps of servants
Deep window vision,
Dream, do, dare, take risks; success
Failures turned lessons
Believe in self, others
Hope, never impossible
Wisdom’s true voice heard
Spirit building words
Mind mending thoughts, awareness
Positive energy

Beardstown has many organizations that serve the community. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and help Beardstown be the best community it can be.
Giving to the community is valuable when you see the impact made on the people that you are helping. You will build long lasting and positive relationships with people that want to give back to the community. Volunteering is a great way to express yourself, and always a fulfilling experience. You will also gain new valuable experience that can lead to future career advancement opportunities. Also, it has been proven that people that volunteer live longer. Volunteers are usually in good health and have lower rates of depression and heart disease.
